Gairloch
The Gairloch Golf Club was founded in 1898 but Parish records tell of golf being played on the links amongst the sand dunes before that date.
The present course is squeezed in between the high rock faces of the surrounding countryside and the wide expanse of beautiful sandy beaches. the 9 holes are played on several different levels that are an exciting challenge to any golfer. As most links courses are relativley flat, a different brand of shotmaking is requird to make your score at Gairloch.
The small, but friendly clubhouse is well equipped to cater for all a visitor needs and this reflects the rest of the village where the pace of life is slow but sure.
The signature hole is the 8th (`Traigh Mor` 526 yards,par-5). It requires accuracy from the tee with deep rough and Gairloch Sands on the left. Trouble awaits the wayward second shot, too. Has been described as one of the most natural par-5s in Scotland.
9 holes, 4,514 yards (for 18 holes), par 63 (SSS 64). Amateur course record 62.
